Biji asam jawa (Tamarindus Indica) mengandung tanin, minyak essensial dan polimer alami seperti pati dan albumin yang memiliki kemampuan adsorbsi untuk meningkatkan kualitas air pada air limbah. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengamati dan mempelajari efektivitas biji asam jawa sebagai koagulan organik yang ramah lingkungan untuk memperbaiki kualitas air limbah industri komponen otomotif.  Penelitian ini menggunakan metode jar test dengan parameter uji pengukuran pH, Total Suspended Solid (TSS), kandungan zat organik dan kadar logam. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pengolahan limbah dengan proses koagulasi-flokulasi menggunakan koagulan organik biji asam jawa telah memenuhi standar baku mutu limbah industri berdasarkan Peraturan Gubernur DKI Jakarta Nomor 69 Tahun 2013 tentang Baku mutu air limbah industri otomotif dan komponennya. Efisiensi penurunan kadar TSS, kadar zat organik dan kadar logam Cr6+, Zn, Ni, dan Fe diperoleh berturut-turut antara lain 96% kadar TSS, 67% kadar zat organik, 99% logam Cr6+,  99% kadar Zn, 99% kadar Ni dan 87% kadar Fe. Dosis larutan koagulan organik biji asam jawa optimum yang digunakan adalah 7500 mg/mL dengan kecepatan putaran proses koagulasi 100 rpm dan proses flokulasi  20 rpm.
